William
Bell Invitational Tournament
William
Bell was the wrestling coach at Sabino High School from 1976 until
he passed away suddenly in 1991. In tribute to his service to the
school and to our children, the Tucson Unified School District puts
on the annual William Bell Invitational Wrestling Tournament for
all 9 TUSD high school wrestling teams. This year, we had 14 schools
participating! Because there were so many schools, host Cholla High
School switched to a format that separated the teams into two "pools".
Each team wrestled against all the other teams in their own pool,
then the top teams in each pool wrestled against each other for
the overall standings.

We spent
all day Friday and Saturday morning in duals against the other high
schools in Pool A. Despite several gaps in our line up, we did ok.
Then the schools in each pool wrestled each other, we ended up at
6th overall.
After
the team duals were complete, the top wrestlers in each weight class
went on to determine individual rankings. Impressively, we had 9
of our wrestlers make it to the individual matches, and 6 of them
came home with medals!
Enough
talk. On to photos!
