On
January 5, our JV team attended a tourney at Cienega High School.
There were many teams there, including several who'd come from
as far as Mesa and Yuma. They must have gotten up at 4 in the
morning or earlier - now that's dedication! Our team was slightly
more rested than that...

This
tourney was round-robin: they sorted all the wrestlers into groups
of 4 or 5 by weight class, and each wrestler got a chance to compete
against everyone in their group. There were four mats going at
once, and hundreds of spectators!

Lots
of good, tough matches all day long. Often, it came down to the
very last second: Here, you can just see the timer bopping the
ref with a rolled-up towel to signal end of the round:

And
we had a number of spectacular wins. In this next shot, you can
see the ref signalling the pin (with that blurry red-banded hand!)

Naturally,
this made our wrestlers very hungry - here's one of them drinking
his "liquid energy" in the form of raw honey:

All
in all, a great experience for our JV team. And as always, they
were urged on by family and friends. Can you tell whose kid was
wrestling when this next picture was taken?

And
finally, this webmaster would like to acknowledge and thank the
other photographers. Keep those pictures coming in!
