The William Bell Varsity event ran all day Friday and all day Saturday, December 5th and 6th. We started the event by wrestling a dual meet with each of the other 8 teams. Round one we wrestled Rincon and won!
Round 2 it was Sabino vs. Sahuaro High School. Sabino won again!
Round 3 was Palo Verde's turn. Sabino emerged victorious!
Round 4 we wrestled against Cholla. They had some tough competitors, but we won the round!
Round 5, Sabino vs. Catalina. YUP, Sabino won again!
Round 6 was against Pueblo High School. They've got a great program, and some very strong wrestlers, and they won this particular dual . But we DID have a couple of good matches!
Round 7 was against Tucson High School. Good news for us, we won that round, too.
And the last dual of the meet for us was against Santa Rita. It was also another win for Sabino!
Whew! If you've been counting (or if you noticed the tournament summary) you'll see that Sabino came out of this portion of the tournament at 7-1, enough for second place! Moving on, the coaches from all 9 schools picked the top 4 wrestlers in each weight class. Sabino had 11 of those top slots! Those wrestlers went on to compete at the individual level.
