William Bell was the wrestling coach at Sabino High School from 1976 until he passed away suddenly in 1991. In tribute to his service to the school and to our children, the Tucson Unified School District puts on the annual William Bell Invitational Wrestling Tournament for all 9 TUSD high school wrestling teams. There's both a Junior Varsity (hosted this year by Pueblo High School) and a 2-day Varsity component, hosted right here at Sabino.

The format begins with a series of dual meets where each school wrestles against each of the other schools.

We do have photos of some of these matches - but even if we just limit it to the Sabino matches, that's 132 pairings! This website does not have ALL of them documented, but you can see a very nice representative sampling on either our William Bell JV or our William Bell Varsity page.

After these rounds, the coaches get together and determine the top four wrestlers in each weight class across all schools. These wrestlers go on to wrestling for 1st through 4th place in the individual component of the tournament. The coaches also vote on the Most Outstanding Wrestler award.

By now you must be wondering, how did it all turn out this year??

The Pueblo Warriors came in first for the 7th straight year. They're a very strong team. Sabino came in second, a stunning turnaround from our 7th place finish last year! Here are the final team results:
