The Catalina
Invitational was held on January 9th and 10th. Like other tournaments,
this one began with a series of dual meets. Because there were 14
schools attending (Amphitheater, Baboquivari, Canyon Del Oro, Catalina,
Catalina Foothills, Cienega, Desert View, Douglas, Buena, Notre
Dame Prep, Palo Verde, Sabino, Sahuaro, & Santa Rita), they
split the teams into two pools and each school wrestled half of
the others to earn team points.

The Sabino
team now has a sufficient roster and enough depth that we were able
to send two teams (Sabino A and Sabino B) PLUS a few extra wrestlers
who were able to fill in matches where other schools had gaps in
particular weight classes. This means a LOT of good experience for
our whole team!
Then
the wrestlers with the top three records for each pool moved on
to the semi-finals and finals to determine the first through sixth
place medalists.

As
you may have guessed by now, our wrestlers had LOTS of wins!
Rather
than make you wait or click through all the pictures, here's the

Here
at Sabino, we're delighted to report that we had 12 wrestlers make
it into the individual event. That means 12 (1st through 6th place)
medals for our team!

As we've
explained
before, wrestling is both an individual sport and
a team sport. We're proud of our medalists, but it took the effort
of the whole team to earn that trophy!
